If you are using Microsoft Virtual server you might be wondering what is the best way to backup your running virtual machines with MINIMUM downtime. In production environment you cannot afford to shutdown virtual machine to backup several GB data which of course takes time. After googling around for few days I couldn't find a decent solution. Only I could find was bits and pieces of hints and small codes here and there, mostly from MS MVPs, not much help!

So I decided to write down a solution myself. Basic theme and much of the helper functions come directly from similar code written by Alexnader on vmWare forums. But since vmWare and MSVS work differently therefore I had to re-wriet most of the main logic.

Beauty of this script is that impact on running virtual machine is minimum, just between 1-2 minutes of downtime for each VM! This virtual server backup script basically saves running VMs, takes .state & configuration file backup, creates a volume shadow, and starts VMs. After starting VMs it creates virtual hard drive backup and compresses (optional) at its leisure. =d>

Hey Aziz - Not sure if this right place to post this question. You have plans for supporting MS VPS inside eJadSPM. I would love to see some automation for the VPS servers we offer (like creating new vps, backup, start/stop operations, and setting properties like cpu/memory etc).

Thanks!

Yes, we do have plans to include MS VS in some release. I think we can automated almost all VPS management aspects except VPS provisioning (since you must have to provide ISO image yourself to boot from). With our management functions, you should be able to do following:

- See VPS resource utilization reports
- View & Manage Disk usage
- View & Manage CPU usage
- View & Manage memory usage
- Initiate backup
- Start/Stop/Save VPS
- Remove VPS

Currently it is not very top on priority though. If you are willing to pay development fee, it can be prioritized. Drool

Hello.

Unfortunately, I am unable to download the file.
It still says "Please register to download" even though I'm already logged in.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
